NORTHERN WHITE CEDAR & OUR FENCE

Northern white-cedar, the lightest of any commercial wood in the United States, grows primarily in the Northern US. It grows in both pure and mixed stands, mostly in wet swampy areas. We purchase all of our cedar from local loggers, right here in Vermont. Northern white-cedar is a medium sized tree, commonly 40 to 50 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet in diameter. A few trees grow as large as 80 feet tall and 6 feet in diameter.  The name commonly used is northern white-cedar, but others are white cedar, eastern white-cedar, arborvitae, eastern arborvitae, and swampcedar.

GREEN MOUNTAIN FENCE FACTS:

RUSTIC: Our Post & Rails are run through our post & rail peeler. They are not milled. This peels all of the bark from them, giving them a semi-smooth finish. We CAN NOT guarantee taper free, uniform post & rails. The same goes for our log beds & railings that we make.

LONG LASTING: Northern White Cedar is naturally resistant to bugs & decay. This equals quality & strength, for a long lasting fence.
